I love using the roll-and-draw creative method in my art class! The process is very simple: the students roll the dice and then draw, paint, or cut out the image or shape that corresponds to the number on the dice. We typically begin with a short introduction before moving into the creative process. During the activity, we might project images related to the topic to maintain a relaxed atmosphere and engage the students’ minds. This type of activity has always been a huge success!

Imádom a dobókockás alkotómódszert vizuális kultúra órán! A menete pofonegyszerű: a gyerekek dobókockával komponálnak egy táblázatból, minden körben(dobáskor) azt az ábrát/formát kell a képére festenie, amit a kockával dobott. Rövid elméleti bevezetővel kezdünk, majd az alkotómunka közben esetleg mehet egy végtelenített vetítés a témáról, az oldott hangulatban az is megragad valamennyire a fejekben. Ez a feladattípus mindig hatalmas sikert arat!

I was curious about the effectiveness of incorporating art history topics into this roll-and-draw method, and was pleasantly surprised when my artist friends from Győr invited me to attend the fine arts stand at the Győrkőcfesztivál (a children’s festival in a city called Győr.) The topic of the festival was “sports” in the year of the Olypmic Games, I decided to incorporate it into a Greek black-figure vase dice randomizer for the festival.

Épp azon gondolkoztam, hogy mennyire jól feldolgozhatnék így számos művészettörténeti témát, kiváló parafrázisok születhetnének, amikor is győri képzőművész barátaim felkértek a Győrkőcfesztivál képzőművészeti standján való részvételre. Idén sport volt a téma, úgyhogy az ókori görög feketealakos vázafestészetet dolgoztam fel dobókockás randomizátorrá.

I offered various paper and paint options for the students (black, white, terracotta), providing them with the opportunity to experiment with different styles. It was fascinating to see how each student approached the task with their unique vision. The terracotta paper was a great choice for a more traditional feel, while the black paper created a dramatic effect, and the artworks on white paper turned out to be the most precise. Despite the different backgrounds, the roll-and-draw method remained consistent, providing a structured yet flexible approach to the creative process.

A fesztiválon dolgoztunk fehér háttérre fekete és narancs temperával (a narancs egy kis feketétől szép terrakotta lett), terrakotta háttérre fekete temperával, illetve fekete lapra narancs temperával. A fehér hátteresek lettek a legaprólékosabbak, a fekete hátteresek pedig szerintem a legbátrabbak.
