Another design-driven assessment.

A papírplasztika feladatok (party-tányér és lámpabúra) után tárgyakkal kezdtünk el foglalkozni a kutatásban résztvevő tizedikes osztályommal, először ufóknak magyaráztuk el a háztartási eszközök használatát, majd mi is nekiláttunk egy háztartási “kéziszerszám” tervezésének – a jó idő tiszteletére egy fagylaltoskanalat terveztünk.

A feladatot úgy terveztem, hogy a diákoknak két részterületre kelljen koncentrálniuk: az ergonomikus, kézhez illeszkedő nyél illetve a fagylaltot gombóccá alakító fej megtervezésére, és ezek stabil, esztétikus összekapcsolására. Magasra tettem a lécet, és a prototípusoknak a meleg teremben, olcsó gyurmából esélyük sem volt ennél szebben sikerülni, de a tervezési koncepció gondolatisága miatt büszke vagyok tanítványaim munkájára.

Bevezetésképpen azt a szituációt képzeltük el, hogy vendégek érkeznek hozzánk, előkapjuk a mélyhűtőből a jól megfagyott jégkrémet, és ízléses kelyheket szeretnénk tálalni. Az evőkanál és a kiskanál, ami otthon van, viszont jól elgörbül az első erősebb mozdulatnál. Milyen lenne az ideális eszköz erre a célra? A funkciónak való megfelelésen túl fontos az is, hogy jól tisztítható, jól tárolható háztartási eszközt találjunk ki.

Inspirációként néhány képet néztünk, problémafelvetéssel és a jól ismert, fagyizós megoldással (ami azért nem fedi le, amit mi szeretnénk):

After the paper sculpture tasks (party plate and lampshade), we started dealing with objects, with my tenth grade class participating in the research, first explaining the use of domestic objects to aliens, and then creating a design for a domestic “hand tool”  – respecting the limited time we had, we designed an ice cream spoon.

I designed the task so that students would have to concentrate on two sections: designing the ergonomic, hand-fitting handle as well as the head of the spoon that forms the ice cream into a scoop, and the stable, aesthetic interconnection of the two. I set the bar high, and the prototypes in the warm room, from cheap clay, never got a chance to come out too nice, but because of the thoughtfulness they put into the design concept, I am proud of my students’ work.

As an introduction, we envisioned the situation of guests coming to our place, we fetch the well-frozen ice cream out of the freezer and want to serve tasteful cups. The tablespoon and the spoon we have at home, however, are well bent on the first stronger scooping motion. What would be the ideal tool for this purpose? In addition to the object being functional, it is also important that we invent an easily cleanable and easily stored household tool.

Ezek után mindenki elkezdett ötletelni, vázlatokat készíteni. Először a kanál-részre koncentráltak a legtöbben, és amikor a használatra, magára a fagyikanalazó-mozdulatra került a sor, akkor kezdték el megoldani a saját kezükhöz illeszkedő nyél formáját.

After that, everyone started brainstorming and sketching. At first, most focused on the spoon part, and when it came to the use of the ice cream spoon itself, that’s when they started to come up with solutions for the shape of a handle that matched their own hands.
