Igyekszem egyre inkább hétköznapi problémafelvetéseket is behozni vizuális kultúra órára, mert úgy gondolom, hogy mindennapi tárgyaink sokkal inkább befolyásolják ízlésünket, mint a magas művészet alkotásai – egész egyszerűen azért, mert többet találkozunk velük. A személyes stílus projekt során minden diák megfogalmazhatja és vizualizálhatja saját maga számára egyéni öltözködési stílusát.

I try to bring more and more everyday problems into the visual culture classes, because I think that our everyday objects have a greater effect on our tastes than the works of high art – quite simply because we come into contact with them more often. During the personal style project, each student can formulate and visualize their own individual clothing styles.

Task: Think about your own appearance, style, formulate what you think your message is to the outside world. Answer the questions, fill out the worksheets, create a Pinterest board.

Bevezetés, első óra | Introduction, first period

Bevezetéssel kezdünk, amelyben először extremitásokat mutatok be képekkel – először Matilda Kahl new yorki art director történetét, aki úgy döntött, minden nap ugyanazt a szettet fogja viselni munkába annak érdekében, hogy több kreatív energiája maradjon.

We begin with an introduction in which I first present extremes, with images – first the story of New York art director Matilda Kahl, who decided to wear the same set of clothes every day to work in order to keep more of her creative energy.

Majd Mark Zuckerberg történetét, aki azt vallja, hogy így is épp elég döntést kell meghoznia, nem akar még reggelente a szekrénye előtt is gondolkodni.

Then the story of Mark Zuckerberg – who admits he already has enough decisions to make and doesn’t want to think while standing in front of his wardrobe every morning.

Ezután bemutatok néhány fiktív stílus-táblát a Pinterestről (ELSŐ, MÁSODIK, HARMADIK) – a diákoknak ki kell találniuk, hogy milyen emberé lehet ez a ruhatár: férfi, nő, idős, fiatal, mivel foglalkozik, milyen a személyisége.

Then I present some fictitious style boards on Pinterest (FIRST,  SECOND,  THIRD) – the students need to figure out what kind of person this wardrobe belongs to: man, woman, old, young, what they do, what their personality is like.

Ezután kapnak egy kérdéssort, melyet csoportmunkában kell megvitatniuk és írásban megválaszolniuk óra végéig.

A kérdések:

1. Mi a különbség a divat és a stílus között?
2. Ismersz-e valakit a környezetedben, akinek van kialakult stílusa (függetlenül attól, hogy ez tetszik-e neked)?
3. Vajon milyen előnyökkel jár, ha valakinek jó a stílusa?
4. Hogyan alakul ki valakinek a stílusa?
5. Vajon mennyiben határozza meg az életstílus és a napi rutin valakinek a kinézetét?
6. Vajon mennyiben határozzák meg a fizikai tulajdonságok vkinek a stílusát?
7. Vajon mennyiben határozza meg a közvetlen környezet valaki stílusát?
8. Lehet-e konfliktus valaki elképzelt stílusa és a mindennapi környezetében megvalósítható stílus között, ha igen, hogy oldható ez fel?

They will then be given a series of questions, which they will have to discuss in group work and answer in writing by the end of the class.

The questions:

1. What is the difference between fashion and style?
2. Do you know someone in your environment who has an established style (not taking into account whether or not you like it)?
3. What are the benefits of having a good style?
4. How does someone develop their style?
5. To what extent does the lifestyle and daily routine define someone’s appearance?
6. To what extent do physical attributes define the style of someone?
7. To what extent does the direct environment define someone’s style?
8. Can there be conflict between someone’s imagined style and the style that can be achieved in their everyday environment, if so, how can this be solvable?

2. óra |2nd class

Mindenki kap egy munkafüzetet, amelyet rajzosan-írásosan kell kitöltenie. A munkafüzet az aktuális évszak ruhatáráról szól, végigvezet az időjáráson, mindennapi tevékenységeken keresztül a konkrét ruhadarabokig minden lényeges kérdésen, amely befolyásolhatja, hogy hogyan öltözködik valaki. Az utolsó pár kérdés teret hagy arra is, hogy fejlesszünk, változtassunk ezen. A munkafüzet kérdéseit együtt értelmezzük.

Everyone gets a workbook which they’ll need to fill in by drawing and writing. The workbook is about the current season’s wardrobe, leading you through the weather, through everyday activities to specific garments, all the essential questions that can affect how someone dresses. The last few questions also leave room for improvement, to change anything. We interpret the questions in the workbook together.

Na most… mivel megígértem a diákjaimnak, hogy nem publikálom a stílus-füzeteiket (ez túl személyes), ezért általam, fiktív diák(ok) nevében kitöltött munkafüzettel illusztrálom a projektet, hogy mindenki lássa, mi a cél:

Now… since I promised my students that I would not publish their style books (it is too personal), I will illustrate the project with a workbook filled out by myself, on behalf of fictitious student(s) so that everyone can see what the objective is:

Első órán várhatóan nem lesznek kész, de ez nem gond, mert minél többet tudnak gondolkodni, annál hasznosabb a tevékenység!

Az óra utolsó 7-8 percében kiadom a házit: 30 képes Pinterest tábla készítése saját személyes stílusukról (30 kép: ruha, kiegészítő, haj, esetleg smink – a tábla linkjét kérem emailben), aztán röviden bemutatom a Pinterest táblámat saját személyes stílus gyűjtésemmel – igen, igen, ez picit fura érzés volt, de meg kell mutatni, így hiteles :)

Elmondtam a táblámhoz azt is, hogy mióta tanítok, sokat változott a stílusom (felnőttesebbre és nőiesebbre), és hogy felsőruházatot szinte csak second hand és vintage boltokból vásárolok, mert egyrészt nem ciki, másrészt nem fogom az összes fizumat cuccokra költeni, harmadrészt pedig mert tudom, hogy a textilipar az olajipar után a második legpusztítóbb emberi tevékenység. Ajánlom A valódi ár című filmet!

Oké, ez persze egy tanítás-módszertani blog, de azért hadd írjam most le nektek, hogy nemrégiben költöztünk, és a cucc-cunami rendezése közben nagy hatással volt rám Marie Kondo minimalista tanítása és Caroline Joy Rector un-fancy.com című blogja is kapszula-ruhatár ideájával. Számomra ez egy arany középút, mert nagyon szeretek kreatívan öltözködni, de a felesleges kupit, pénzköltést, mitvegyekfel-érzést utálom.

After the first class, they will probably not be finished, but that’s fine, because the more they can think, the more useful the activity is!

I’m going to give out the homework in the last 7-8 minutes of the class: create a 30 picture Pinterest board  about own personal styles (30 pictures: clothes, accessory, hair, perhaps makeup – I’ll ask for the link of the board via email), and then I’ll briefly present my Pinterest board with my own personal style collection – yes, yes, it felt a bit weird, but you have to show it, so it’s authentic :)

I also mentioned, while presenting the board, how long I’ve been teaching, how my style has changed a lot (into more adult-like and feminine) and that I get my overclothes almost only from second hand and vintage stores, because on the one hand it’s not embarrassing, and on the other hand, I’m not going to spend all my salary on stuff, and thirdly because I know that the textile industry is the second most destructive human activity after the oil industry. I recommend the movie “The True Cost“!

Okay, this is an art teaching blog, of course, but let me just write down for you that we recently moved, and while sorting the stuff-tsunami, Marie Kondo’s minimalist teachings had a great influence on me, as well as Caroline Joy Rector’s blog: un-fancy.com, with the capsule-wardrobe idea. For me, this is a golden middle ground because I really like dressing creatively, but I hate the unnecessary mess, spending money and the Ihavenothingtowear-feeling.

3. óra | 3rd class

Ez az óra a munkafüzetek befejezéséről és a Pinterest táblák rendezgetéséről szól – kinek mire van még szüksége időre. Szerencsére a táblákba is bármikor bele lehet nyúlni, az emailben elküldött link ugyanaz marad.

Ha jó az osztályközösség és óra végén vállalják néhányan, hogy bemutatják a tábláikat projektoron a többieknek, az nagyon-nagyon klassz lehet!!! Nekem volt olyan osztály, ahol inkább nem vállalták, de olyan is, ahol mindenki megmutatta, és próbálták kitalálni, hogy kié lehet egy-egy tábla (persze, ha nem a teljes nevét használja a pinterest profilján), úgyhogy még egy teljes órát rászántunk, mert annyira jól szórakoztunk!

Tapasztaltam az is, hogy néhányan inzultusnak veszik ezt a feladatot – ők azok az okos, érzékeny gyerekek, akik nem elégedettek a kinézetükkel, valahol talán irigylik összeszedettebb társaikat, de mégsincs kedvük, erejük, lehetőségük (vagy egyik sem) változtatni ezen a helyzeten. Ez egy nehéz helyzet, mert nekik segíteni kell valahogy – velük négyszemközt beszéltem arról, hogy igen, az a normális, hogy a belső értékek számítanak, de mégis: rengeteg elutasítást megspórolhat az ember karrier vagy párkeresés terén, ha stílusos, mert az első benyomás erejét kutatások igazolják.

This class is about completing the workbooks and sorting the Pinterest boards— who needs time for what else. Fortunately, you can touch into the boards at any time, the link sent in the e-mail remains the same.

If the class community is good and at the end of class some people agree to present their boards to the others on a projector, it can be very, very cool!!! I had a class where they’d rather not present it, but also one where everyone showed it and they tried to figure out which belongs to who (of course, if they didn’t use their full name on their Pinterest profile), so we sacrificed another full class because we were having so much fun!

I have also found that some take this task as an insult— they are the smart, sensitive children who are not happy with their looks, who may be envious of their more organized/collected peers, but have no desire, strength, opportunity (or none of the above) to change this situation. This is a difficult situation, because they need to be helped somehow – I spoke to them privately about how, yes, it is normal that the internal values matter, but still: you can avoid a lot of rejection in the career or dating area, if you are stylish, because the power of first impression is backed by research.
